The REL Bassline Blue is a premium, handcrafted subwoofer cable designed to unlock the full potential of your REL sub-bass system. Developed by REL’s own engineering team, this cable is a significant upgrade over the standard high-level cable included in the box. It is engineered to improve every aspect of your system's performance, not just the bass. By utilizing "Natural Drawn" copper and optimizing the geometry for REL's unique high-impedance filter network, Bassline Blue delivers a soundstage that is more illuminated, dynamic, and natural. It clears the "haze" often associated with standard cabling, revealing the subtle textures and spatial cues that make high-fidelity audio so engaging.
Key Features:
- Natural Drawn™ Copper: Constructed from high-purity copper that is slow-drawn in a nitrogen bath to minimize impurities and preserve the natural structure of the wire for smoother sound.
- Teflon Dielectric: Each conductor is immediately coated in a Teflon film upon extrusion, protecting the purity of the copper and ensuring consistent electrical characteristics.
- Hand-Built in California: Meticulously assembled by hand using pure silver solder to ensure a permanent, high-conductivity bond that won't degrade over time.
- Optimized Geometry: Designed specifically to work with the unique input impedance of REL subwoofers, avoiding the pitfalls of standard "thick" speaker cables that can dull the sound.
- Swiss Neutrik Speakon: Features a genuine, locking Neutrik Speakon connector at the subwoofer end for a reliable, gas-tight mechanical connection.
- Gold-Plated Spades: The amplifier end is terminated with high-quality gold-plated spade lugs (or stackable bananas for the Naim version) for universal compatibility and resistance to oxidation.
Sonic Illumination
The most striking improvement Bassline Blue offers is what REL calls "illumination." While bass definition and impact are certainly enhanced, the true magic lies in how it affects the entire frequency spectrum. The soundstage opens up, becoming larger and more transparent. Instruments and vocals gain better separation and focus, and the contrast between loud and soft passages becomes more distinct. It’s like cleaning a window you didn't realize was dirty—suddenly, the music is just there.
Science Meets Craft
Standard cables often focus on being thick to carry high current, but REL's high-level input draws virtually zero current. Therefore, Bassline Blue focuses on geometry and material purity. The "Natural Drawn" copper is processed gently to avoid hardening the metal, preserving its sonic neutrality. The use of pure silver solder is a labor-intensive choice that pays off in detail and longevity. This is a cable built by system designers, not just wire manufacturers.
The High-Level Advantage
REL’s High-Level Connection is famous for allowing the subwoofer to receive the exact same signal as your main speakers, ensuring perfect timing and tonal balance. Bassline Blue refines this connection to its highest degree. By reducing resistance and optimizing signal transfer speed, it ensures that your subwoofer blends even more seamlessly with your main speakers, disappearing sonically while adding weight and scale to the performance.
A Naim-Specific Option
For owners of Naim amplification, REL offers a specific version of the Bassline Blue. Naim amplifiers have unique output impedance characteristics that can be sensitive to cable capacitance. The Naim-compatible Bassline Blue features a custom circuit and stackable banana plugs that mimic the electrical properties required for stability, allowing Naim users to safely enjoy the full benefits of a REL subwoofer without compromising amplifier performance.
