Description

Named for one of the most intellectually rigorous and musically expressive composers in Western history, the Vienna Acoustics Bach has always honored its namesake with design that is both elegant and exacting. Originally created for the North American market in 1995, the Bach model has steadily evolved through generations of refinement. Now, three decades later, Vienna Acoustics introduces the limited edition Bach Ultimate Edition to mark the 300th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s birth. This speaker is more than a tribute. It is a reinvention, thoughtfully updated in both material and performance while remaining true to the quiet sophistication that defines the Vienna Acoustics legacy.

With its narrow footprint, handcrafted cabinet work, and refined planar geometry, the Bach Ultimate Edition blends seamlessly into domestic spaces. But behind the graceful exterior lies a compact floorstander capable of immense musical scale, extraordinary midrange texture, and nuanced dynamic expression. Designed and built entirely in Austria, and finished exclusively in a Premium Rosewood veneer, it represents a summit of design intent that speaks as beautifully to the heart as it does to the intellect.

Only 100 pairs were produced for the United States and Canada, making this speaker not just musically exceptional but truly rare.

Key Features
  • Proprietary 7” X3P mid-woofer: Engineered from Vienna’s exclusive TPX blend and triple-polypropylene composite for speed, damping, and rigidity

  • Hand-coated 1” silk dome tweeter: Designed and tuned in-house for extended response and seamless integration

  • Rear-vented bass reflex system: Impulse-optimized QB3 alignment provides clean, tuneful low-frequency performance

  • Audiophile-grade crossover: MKP capacitors, air-core coils, and metal film resistors laid out with precision for signal purity

  • Copper circuit path layout: Minimizes electrical interference and distortion, preserving low-level detail

  • Premium handcrafted cabinet: Finished in natural Rosewood veneer, furniture-grade quality with acoustical integrity

  • Designed and built in Austria: Every component is assembled and tested in Vienna for consistency and musicality

Cone Technology That Serves the Music

At the core of the Bach Ultimate’s sonic character is its proprietary 7-inch X3P mid-bass driver. Far from a generic design, this cone is made from a blend of TPX and three polypropylene-based synthetics. The result is a driver material with uniquely high internal damping, reduced breakup behavior, and extended bandwidth. Its stiffness-to-weight ratio allows for accurate pistonic motion across the midrange and lower bass registers, delivering clarity and warmth without the smear or congestion that plagues lesser designs.

The new inverted rubber surround design further enhances damping at the outer edge of the cone, suppressing resonant artifacts that often muddy transients and blur harmonic structure. These subtle but essential refinements give the Bach Ultimate a rare level of composure. Music flows naturally, with vivid imaging and unforced detail that feels easy to listen to yet emotionally engaging.

A High Frequency Response That Breathes

Matching the precision of the midrange is Vienna’s hand-coated 1-inch silk dome tweeter, shared with its more ambitious Reference Series models. Tuned by ear and tested with real music, this tweeter avoids the metallic edge and artificial brightness that often accompany extended treble designs. Instead, it provides spaciousness, texture, and a sense of natural air that integrates seamlessly with the X3P mid-woofer.

Its performance is not limited to high frequencies alone. The tweeter is intentionally voiced to extend into the upper midrange, creating a handoff between drivers that is both coherent and tonally unified. The result is a speaker that vanishes into the music, allowing voices, strings, and piano to appear with startling intimacy and realism.

Crossover Design That Listens as Carefully as It Measures

A loudspeaker’s crossover is not just a collection of parts. It’s a blueprint for how drivers behave together. In the Bach Ultimate, that blueprint is laid out with surgical care. Each component is selected through extensive listening, not just specification matching. MKP capacitors with 1% tolerance, high-purity air-core coils, and metal film resistors with tight inductance control are all part of the equation. But perhaps more important is the way those components are arranged.

The copper circuit paths in the Bach Ultimate crossover are laid out to avoid sympathetic and parasitic interactions — the kinds of electrical noise and interference that, while inaudible on paper, make themselves known as smearing, loss of detail, or subtle tonal confusion in actual music playback. By taking a layout-first approach, Vienna Acoustics achieves a level of signal purity and spatial clarity that listeners often attribute to much larger or more expensive designs.

Cabinet Craft That Belongs in the Home

Every Bach Ultimate is finished in handcrafted Premium Rosewood veneer: a natural wood selected not only for its beauty, but for its acoustic neutrality and structural stability. The cabinet geometry is designed to minimize diffraction and reduce internal standing waves, while the bracing structure controls resonance without deadening the musical energy.

Unlike mass-produced enclosures, these cabinets are built to true furniture-grade standards. The visual presence is understated but sophisticated, with real warmth and character that synthetic finishes can’t replicate. The narrow front baffle improves imaging and room integration, making placement easy in a variety of listening environments.

Reviews

“The Vienna Acoustics Limited Edition Bach Ultimates are, in the end, a very easy speaker to live with and love in many ways. They are small floorstanders that easily disappear into the room and into the music while offering an engaging level of immediacy, coherence, and energy coupled with convincing physicality even in the Barn’s rather large listening area. I imagine the Bach Ultimates would be even happier in a smaller room and if they’re happier, the listener will smile even more. And in today’s world of six figure DACs, the Bach Ultimates strike me as being sensibly priced to boot.”

Michael Lavorgna, Twittering Machines

“The Bach Ultimate speakers live up to their name, they are worthy of being named after one of the greatest composers the world has known. They sound great, with greater detail and bass than I would expect from a 2-way design. Vienna Acoustics has overcome one of the hurdles of using a single driver for both mids and bass with their proprietary driver and its implementation. The size of them also does not hold them back, they can fill a decent-sized room with music.”
